États généraux de l’eau – 3rd edition

Water and climate change: it affects everyone!

The 3rd edition of the États généraux de l’eau was held on February 13, 2024, under the theme ” L’eau et les changements climatiques, ça touche tout le monde!”. We welcomed 80 participants from various backgrounds to the Manoir D’Youville in Châteauguay. Many water stakeholders and organizations were in attendance.

The day-long symposium was a resounding success, featuring lectures and a fun workshop that appealed to citizens, technical representatives and elected officials alike. The main focus was on adaptation methods for different environments: agricultural, municipal, urban and tourist. 12 speakers were present: Hélène Bernard and Mélanie Poirier from the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation, Gilles Rivard from Lasalle NHC, Judith Lavoie from the Conseil régional de l’environnement de la Montérégie, Philippe Gachon, hydroclimatology professor at UQAM and researcher at the Centre pour l’étude et la simulation du climat à l’échelle régionale, Jimmy Mayrand of Université Laval, Priscilla Gareau of Ambioterra, Anick Bribosia of Loisir et Sport Montérégie, Caroline Charron and Geneviève Mckenzie of UPA Montérégie, Antoine Mathieu of ISFORT and Charles Lussier of CLG AGFOR.

These workshops enabled participants to discuss priorities and the future of water in the Montérégie-Ouest region. Great ideas were exchanged on the issues presented, which will enable us to build concrete solutions in response.

A room dedicated to the agro-environment

Farmers are not spared by climate change, so it was important for us to hold discussions on the best practices to put in place to promote soil and water health. Some examples of adaptation were presented, such as the addition of agroforestry hedges or the implementation of intercropping agroforestry systems. Financing and technical support were also discussed.

A series of informative capsules will shortly be available on our YouTube channel. If you’re interested in learning more, watch them and listen to the experts present at the symposium. We also invite you to watch the CSur TV report.

We would like to thank our employees, our Board of Directors, the Dauphin Aventureux film crew and the staff of the Manoir D’Youville. This event would not have been possible without the great contribution of our partners, particularly Rivière, the Roussillon RCM and Desjardins.
