OBV SCABRIC was pleased to give 12 young people the opportunity to take part in an introductory fishing day on July 14 as part of the Fondation pour la biodiversité et la faune du Québec’s Pêche en herbe program. The program is delivered in collaboration with Canadian Tire, its main partner, and the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP).
Selected among projects providing high-quality instruction and supervision, the activity offered by OBV SCABRIC gave young participants an opportunity to learn about fish habitats, various fishing techniques, responsible fishing practices and best practices for safety and environmental protection. With authorization from the MELCCFP, each young angler will receive a Pêche en herbe certificate, which will serve as a fishing licence until they turn 18.
During the summer of 2026, the Fondation aims to introduce more than 22,000 new participants to fishing through local organizations that deliver Pêche en herbe activities.
“The Pêche en herbe program has been one of the Fondation’s greatest sources of pride for more than 29 years. If more than 400,000 young people have been introduced to fishing since 1997, it is thanks to organizations such as OBV SCABRIC. Thank you for helping inspire the next generation by introducing young people to recreational fishing,” concluded Jean-Claude D’Amours, President and CEO of the Fondation.
Pêche en herbe is presented by the Fondation pour la biodiversité et la faune du Québec, with the
support of its main partner, Canadian Tire.
