Understanding river movements during floods
What is it?
Established in 2017, this project is a partnership with the Ministère de la Sécurité publique du Québec (MSP) and Université Laval and Quebec watershed organizations via the Regroupement des organismes de bassins versants du Québec (ROBVQ) to learn how different rivers behave in times of flood. In 2019, the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) signed a service agreement with the OBV to mark specific flood markers and washouts.
The flooding affected several towns and cities in the Châteauguay area, including Beauharnois, Léry and Châteauguay.
What do we do?
OBV SCABRIC was mobilized to mark the levels reached by the various floods in and out of season.
OBV SCABRIC is responsible for:
Since the beginning of this partnership, OBV SCABRIC has been mobilized almost every year. How markings are made has changed, but the goal remains the same: public safety.
Over the coming years, the organization may be mobilized again to carry out markings in the event of major flooding events, as well as during low-water periods.
