What is the project goal?

Pêche en herbe is a fishing initiation program for young people aged 6 to 17. It is implemented by the Fondation de la Faune du Québec (FFQ) with the support of theministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP) and its main partner, Canadian Tire.

The goal is to teach young people the basics of recreational fishing while instilling in them respect for aquatic wildlife and ecosystems.

This approach will allow OBV SCABRIC to teach young people basic fishing techniques (setting up a line, types of lures, casting techniques), the identification of fish species and their habitat, fishing regulations and ethics (minimum sizes, quotas, prohibited periods, catch and release) and the importance of protecting aquatic environments.

What do we do?

During the summer of 2024, OBV SCABRIC supported two day camps, those of Ormstown and Sainte-Martine. More than a hundred young people were able to benefit from the activity and acquire a fishing license valid until they turn 18. Other activities will take place during the summer periods of 2025 and 2026. If your organization is interested in organizing this type of activity, please do not hesitate to contact us!

OBV SCABRIC is responsible for:
  • To develop and organize Pêche en herbe training courses in collaboration with organized groups (e.g., scout groups, day camps) or as a public event.
  • To supervise young people in a safe and educational environment.
  • To promote the next generation by encouraging young people to practice fishing responsibly.
  • To encourage conservation by raising awareness of the protection of aquatic wildlife and waterways.
