A concrete action plan for the next 5 years
What is it?
From 2017 to 2019, OBV SCABRIC led a Table de concertation comprising people and organizations with concerns about the Saint-Régis and Saint-Pierre rivers, which experience flooding, erosion and drought. It brought together a wide range of partners from the municipal, agricultural, environmental, research, government and private sectors, and provided an open forum for discussion outside the usual regulatory constraints. Participants shared their knowledge, fears, constraints and dreams. They integrated the predicted consequences of climate change into their daily lives.
What do we do?
Together, they came up with a concrete action plan for the next 5 years, accompanied by a set vision:
” In 100 years, through appropriately financed and concrete collective actions, the proper functioning space of the rivers in the Saint-Régis watershed will be protected, the riverbanks will be accessible community parks, rainwater management will be improved and children will be playing in the rivers.”
How?
- Infiltrate water close to where it falls;
- Reduce the effects of erosion;
- Reuse or recycle water;
- Maintain the mobilization of Res-Alliance participants.
OBV SCABRIC is responsible for:
- Recruiting partners;
- Facilitating meetings;
- Keeping participants engaged;
- Establishing new partnerships;
- Raising the project’s profile locally, in the Montérégie region and elsewhere in Quebec and Canada.
