What is it?
Launched in 2024 for a three-year period, this project aims to acquire knowledge to help restore three at-risk species: the Grass Pickerel, the Grass Carp, and the American Eel in Lake Saint-François and its tributaries. The OBV SCABRIC is working in collaboration with Ambioterra on this project, developed by the ZIP Committee of Haut-Saint-Laurent (HSL). The project is funded by the Canada Nature Fund for Aquatic Species at Risk.
What do we do?
This summer, the OBV SCABRIC, in collaboration with the ZIP Committee HSL, launched an awareness campaign to encourage compliance of sanitary facilities in isolated residences within the municipalities of Saint-Anicet and Sainte-Barbe. As part of this initiative, inspections of septic tanks were conducted at selected residences. A geomatics study on the turbidity and eutrophication of Lake Saint-François is also underway.
OBV SCABRIC is responsible for:
- Conduct a geomatics analysis of turbidity and eutrophication
- Conduct surveys of sanitary installations for isolated residences near targeted habitats in Sainte-Barbe and Saint-Anicet
- Develop a detailed monitoring plan for the condition of sanitary installations
- Support municipalities and residents in upgrading autonomous sanitary installations to meet standards
- Pêches et océans Canada
- Comité ZIP HSL
